My friend heard Whitney Houston died during her shift as a dorm desk attendant. And, basically, all hell broke loose.

Rest in peace, Whitney. Sorry all the Freshmen don’t know who you were/are.

The first possible casualty of the Occupy movement. This is sickening.

Stop What You’re Doing And Watch The Hell Out Of This of the Day: Metro Detroit native Ross Capicchioni, who was shot multiple times by a person he thought was his friend, tells The Berrics his absolutely must-hear story of survival, recovery, and justice.

More people like Ross need to exist in this world.

Sleeping at Last - Emphasis

The smartest thing i’ve ever learned is that I don’t have all the answers, just a little light to call my own.
Though it pales in comparison to the overarching shadows,
a speck of light can reignite the sun and swallow darkness whole.

This song and this man’s music is absolutely rebirthing me right now. Usually, I’d say “this music’s killing me” if a song’s powerful and beautiful. Sleeping At Last’s music is just too positive and full of wonder for that though, so “rebirthing” just feels right.

I’ve realized lately my blog has been coasting a little astray from its original intended focus of writing and it has been due to a few reasons. I just got a job, I’ve been focusing on short stories a little more lately than the book and just a general summer-induced laze infecting my body. So, while I sort more of my writing out, I feel like I should post a favorite poet of mine: Derrick Brown. Been a fan of his for several years now and I’ve amassed all but one of his books. He’s the kind of vagabond lunatic I hope to be, at the very least, influenced by in a matter of ten to fifteen years. He’s got this perfect mix of insane depth and metaphors flying all over the place coupled with this everyman demeanor and storytelling and he never ceases to inspire me.

This is one of the first clips I saw of his poetry and it’s made me want to see him live ever since.
